We are pleased to announce the Early Career Researcher (ECR) Workshop, taking place on Monday, 29 June 2026, ahead of the IAPS 2026 Conference Opening Ceremony at the University of Surrey.

Designed for PhD students and those completing MSc dissertations in people-environment studies, the ECR Workshop provides a supportive space to present, discuss, and refine your research with peers and experienced mentors. The workshop also offers the chance to connect with peers and mentors before the main conference begins.

🔍 How to Apply: Submit a 250-word abstract (via the individual submission portal: https://app.oxfordabstracts.com/auth?redirect=/stages/79325/submitter) following the same deadlines as the main conference (9 January 2026).

Successful applicants will later submit a short paper (max 4 pages / 2,000 words) for mentors to review ahead of the workshop.

Submissions are encouraged from the Global South and from students at any stage of their PhD or in the final stage of an MSc.

IAPS offers up to seven travel grants of €800 each to support participation in the ECR Workshop (and, by extension, the Conference) among ECRs most in need of financial assistance.

An invitation to apply for these grants will be sent to those accepted for participation in the ECR Workshop; we anticipate this being in late February 2026.
