The Environmental Design Research Association (EDRA)’s Michael Brill Research Grant is open for Phase 1 applications.

The grant ($3,000) supports research connecting communication, design and the social sciences: how the design of physical environments shapes communicative behaviour, or how communication theory can inform the design of communal places.

Six approach categories are listed, covering mediated communication technologies in community spaces through to connection and disconnection in lieu of communal places.

Phase 1 needs only a 750-word proposal, a CV and up to ten core references. The application deadline is 15 October 2026.

Student, faculty and practitioner proposals are all welcome.
