What is IAPS?
Formed officially 35 years ago, but with intellectual roots dating back to the ‘60s in the architectural psychology movement, IAPS is a multidisciplinary and active association gathering researchers and practitioners from around the world, with a shared interest in people’s interaction with their environment. Psychology, sociology, geography, design, planning are only a few of the disciplines represented and for these and their representatives, IAPS serves both as a platform for disciplinary discussion, and as a platform for collaboration.
IAPS Bulletin
A good starting point to get an idea of what we do though, is the IAPS Bulletin. An invaluable resource!
The Networks
The Networks are interest and research groups formed by IAPS members. They carry out debates, discussion groups, publications, often posses their own website and organise symposia and conferences.
IAPS 2024 Conference
The 2024 IAPS Conference will be in Barcelona, Spain. More information here: https://iaps-association.org/blog/28-iaps-conference-barcelona-2-5-july-2024/
There are several reasons why it is a good idea to join IAPS and become one of its numerous members.
IAPS is a lively international association of scholars and practitioners from the disciplines which share a fundamental interest in environment and behaviour studies. These include environmental psychology, architecture, geography, urban design, sociology, interior design, landscape, anthropology, planning and environmental management. The association fosters interdisciplinary study of the transactions and interactions between people and their socio-physical surroundings – including both built and natural environments.
